War and Trauma  - In Flanders Fields Museum

The temporary exhibition "War and Trauma" presented the extensive theme of trauma and treatment during the First World War. The gripping scenography engaged the visitors by leading them from the frontline chaos to the evacuation and nursing of the wounded in the field hospitals. Numerous objects and exhibits illustrated the emotional stories of individual soldiers. The open hospital setting scene built a strong contrast - where the medical dilemma was expressed in a shadow film that showed a person speaking to himself.

War and Trauma, the 'bandage space'

Central element in the scenography was a large suspended element wrapped in fabric - the 'bandage space'. It created privacy and intimacy for the sensitive theme and the confronting objects, images and stories that were presented inside. As such it transmitted in a powerful way the essence of the exhibition.
